Alpenhof Lodge Complete Company Review by This Current Employee

Overall review of Alpenhof Lodge by This Current Employee
Date Reviewed: August 05, 2004
Years of Employment: 2004 – Present
Overall Grade: B+ (88%)
Comments: The Alpenhof is a terrific company for young people in the early stages of their careers in business, hostpitality, or food-service. Lack of traditional benefits is counterbalanced by the incredible opportunity to live and work 60-feet from the tram to some of the best skiing on the continent.
Business Ethics review of Alpenhof Lodge by This Current Employee
Business Ethics Grade: A+ (100%)
Comments: As the night auditor, I see a large percentage of the transactions that move through the hotel and restaurants. I see no evidence of fraudulent conduct or corrupt bookkeeping. At least one of the two general managers is on site every day, and their accountability for every part of each operation within the company is commendable.

Management and Culture review of Alpenhof Lodge by This Current Employee
Management and Culture Grade: A- (91%)
Comments: The Alpenhof is the oldest hotel in the area, and it has a huge pool of repeat customers from all over the world. (Sometimes, though, I feel that this has made the company a bit cocky about its standing. Marketing/advertising is fairly rudimentary.) Opportunities for growth are impressive. A front desk employee was recently promoted to a position of management at one of the company's properties in Colorado. Even without promotion, payraises are dependable.

Compensation, Benefits, and Training review of Alpenhof Lodge by This Current Employee
Compensation, Benefits, and Training Grade: D (67%)
Comments: Pay is very competitive. (I, myself, received a 72% raise by seeking employment with the Alpenhof.) Also, the lodge offers very affordable housing in condominiums for its seasonal workers. The condos are not new or visually impressive, but in a part of the country where a 2-bedroom apartment rents for $1500/month, they are welcome relief at around $250. Since most workers are seasonal, the Alpenhof does not offer much in the wat of benefits. I have not spoken with other employees about this, but I know I do not receive any type of retirement or supplemental insurance. My training for the new job was very thorough, and it involved a full (paid) shift in which I shadowed the auditor whose job I would be replacing. I am also constantly picking up new information. Part of the small-company culture is that all employees become jack-of-all-trades of sorts.
