Overall review of Express by This Past Employee
Date Reviewed: October 02, 2006
Years of Employment: 2002 – 2005
Overall Grade: D (46%)
Comments: I would think twice about working for Express or any other Limited Brands company as they seem to all have similar practices.
Business Ethics review of Express by This Past Employee
Business Ethics Grade: D (40%)
Comments: Abolished full-time positions for associates. People who had been working with the company for even 10 and 15 years were told that they could take a part time position and they would loose their benefits. They forced associates to participate in aggressive selling behaviors without sales commission. Those who did well were promoted to "Fahion Experts" and they received bonuses for achieving a certain 'sales per hour'...years later, they did away with the position and took away the bonuses that those associates were receiving.

Management and Culture review of Express by This Past Employee
Management and Culture Grade: D (47%)
Comments: The company changed directions with their clothing and alienated their costumer by trying to become a higher-end retailer. During that time, they were putting tremndous pressure on store management to sell their new look that costumers weren't interested in. They forced you to open credit cards and sell gift cards with very high quotas. District managers were threatening store management teams with 'corrective action' or 'write ups' if credit card quotas weren't being met.

Compensation, Benefits, and Training review of Express by This Past Employee
Compensation, Benefits, and Training Grade: D (47%)
Comments: As a manager for Express, in order to execute what was expected of you with the very limited payroll for sales associates, it was next to impossible to work less than 10-12 hour days, regular overnighters to try and complete floorsets and maintain "company standards." The salary wasn't competitive as other retailers who demanded less were paying higher salaries.
