Business Ethics review of Macys by This Past Employee
Business Ethics Grade: F (27%)
Comments: Management absolutely played favorites. My department manager was horrible; she let some people get away with doing nothing while others were always under her thumb. The store manager no better, she was cold and unfriendly. No matter how well the store did, all we ever heard about was getting more sales and exceeding your goals. In addition, they are never satisfied with the number of new accounts opened. They constantly pound this subject into the employees and they do not want to accept the fact that not everyone wants a credit card with a 26% APR. They push the employees to do more and more with less and less. They eliminated the housekeeping staff so sales people have to clean and take out the trash, they eliminated the customer service department so sales people have handle account questions, payments, etc. Their associate scorecard system is simply a means of intimidation. Moreover, I cannot believe they paid somebody for coming up with this load of "Magic" crap that they try to foist on both the employees and the customers. The pay stinks even by retail standards and the extended hours make no since. Thank God, I left this mess of a company and I now have a job with Nordstroms which is about as opposite of Macy's as you can get.

Management and Culture review of Macys by This Past Employee
Management and Culture Grade: F (34%)
Comments: Both the store management and the corporate management were terrible. They were always changing their minds on policies and procedures; one day you had to do things this way, the next day you had to do things completely different. They never seemed to be happy with anything and obviously, they are paying some corporate types in an office to keep coming up with this garbage. They need to listen to the sales associates who have to implement their stupid ideas and deal with the customers. We know what works and what does not. However, all they know how to do is to make more work for the sales people with no visible benefits. They try to convince employees that they are a company that cares and they always have some clever campaign in place like "Be Outstanding" or the latest "Making Magic". But the reality is that they do not care about you, they can use you and throw you out because they know there is some other sucker waiting to take your place. Macy's is a mess because of their management and policies. Stay away at all costs.
